Closing/School Emergency Procedures
The following factors are probable reasons for the closing of school:
- Dangerous conditions for students (high winds, fallen electric lines, damaged building, contagious epidemics or natural disasters)
- No water or water pollution
- Labor strikes
- Tune in to the emergency broadcast stations and listen for instructions
- Avoid calling the school during an emergency. The lines must be kept free to give and receive emergency instructions.
- Keep calm and trust that we will do everything to insure the safety of your child. We practice and prepare for emergencies to help keep your child safe!
General School Rules
- Arrive to school no earlier than 7:00 am. Students in grades K-2 will be allowed to enter their classroom building at 7:30 am. Students in grades 3-5 will be released from the cafeteria at 7:45 am. Parent or guardian may wait outside of the classroom buildings with their child.
- Stay away from parking lots and driveway areas.
- After school, go home promptly, unless enrolled in an after school program. Wait for parents in designated areas only.
- Leave expensive jewelry, electronic games, toys, excessive amounts of money, and expensive items at home.
- Students may bring a cell phone if it is turned OFF, kept in a bag or backpack, not used during the school day and not shared with other students.
- Any items brought to school are the responsibility of that child.
- Walk on paved walkways only.
Guidelines for Student Behavior
When a student misbehaves in school, it is usually because he/she does not know the rules, has forgotten the rules, or has used poor judgment in dealing with a specific situation. Discipline is then viewed as part of the educational process and is approached as an opportunity for problem-solving. A student is taught to accept the natural or logical consequences of his/her behavior and encouraged to make more appropriate decisions in the future. Staff members help students to be effective, responsible individuals by teaching them problem solving skills, by consistently helping students to apply the skills and by providing good role models.
