Principal's Message

This is a photo of our principal
Aloha Ho‘okele Ohana,

Welcome back to school! In just our third week of opening the school year, all Oahu schools were closed two days due to Hurricane Lane. Fortunately, the hurricane was downgraded and we were unscathed by the storm.
Beginning the week of February 25, 2019, Ho‘okele will be experiencing our first Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accreditation visit. The accreditation process is used for evaluating and assuring the quality of educational institutions and programs. As
of last year, the teachers and staff have been working in focus groups analyzing school data and reflecting on our practices. This information is being compiled in a focus on learning document in preparation for our accreditation visit.

Our school enrollment is growing very rapidly. We currently have about 875 students, 100 students over our projected enrollment. It is hard to believe we have more than doubled since opening the school four years ago. With an increase of enrollment, came an increase
of teachers and staff.

Please welcome the following new teachers and educational assistants to Ho‘okele Elementary.
  • Preschool: Mrs. Susan Pacada Grade K: Mrs. Christine Robertson, Mrs. Maria Hernandez-Cruz
  • Grade 1: Ms. Kascy Nakama
  • Grade 2: Mrs. Phyllis Abrigo
  • Grade 3: Mrs. Jessica Patterson, Ms. Megan Togami, Mrs. Crystal Barrett
  • Grade 5: Ms. Marianna Castro
  • Grades K and 4: Ms. Keilah Imai
  • Medically Fragile: Ms. Michelei Reyes
  • Grade 5: Ms. Gmei Eugenio

Our school motto, “An Attitude of Gratitude” has been a powerful message for us. It helps the school to appreciate our achievements and open our hearts and minds to continuous improvement. The following quote was selected this year to foster our school motto.
“Gratitude consists of being more aware of what you have, than what you don’t.”
-Author Unknown
We invite you to partner with us in having “An Attitude of Gratitude” to create a positive
school year filled with memorable moments and great accomplishments.
Mahalo,

Laureen Dunn
Principal
