Student Registration Guidelines & Procedures:

Registration Hours:

  • Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  (Temporary hours until the school year begins.) 
  • You must be the child’s PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN to register.

Enrolling in the DOE for the 1st Time:


The following information is needed for children enrolling in the public school of Hawaii for the first time:
  • An original copy of the birth certificate or equivalent (passport)
  • Documentation that a Tuberculin (Mantoux) test was done within 12 months before school entrance; A student will not be allowed to enter school unless this requirement has been met.  This is a requirement from the Department of Health.
  • A health card (Form 14) or its equivalent, on which a recorded current physical examination done within a year from entry, a tuberculin test clearance, and updated immunizations.
  • Proof of Residence:  Please follow the guideline carefully
            Homeowner:  One current utility bill and one of the following:
                    Deed to home
                    Mortgage Statement
                    Real Property Tax Assessment
                    Escrow papers
            Renter:  Current Rental/Lease Agreement and two current utility bills  
            Legal Document:  If Applicable 
Kindergarten:  Your child must be 5 years old on or before July 31 to enter kindergarten.
If transferring from another DOE School, you must present a release card (F211) from the releasing school and proof of residency (as indicated above).

Students Transferring from another local School:

Temporary Procedures for New School:
Pupils transferring to Ho‘okele Elementary School from another Hawaii DOE school may be registered at this time.   A release card (F211) is not needed but will be required at the end of the current school year.  Proof of residency (please follow guideline listed above) or a legal document that verifies you have purchased a home in Ho‘okele's home school area is needed.  Ho‘okele Elementary School will notify the pupil's current Hawaii DOE school of the registration.

Normal Procedures:
Pupils transferring to Ho‘okele Elementary School from another Hawaii DOE school must present a release card (F211) which is issued by the releasing school and their proof of residency (please follow the guideline listed above). Students transferring from an out-of-state school should, if available, present a release card to facilitate registration and placement.

Kindergarten Registration:

A student must be 5 years old on or before July 31 to enter Kindergarten. For more information, visit:

Release Packet/Withdrawl Documents From Former School: 

Transferring?  Please notify the school’s front office, either by phone or written notice, as soon as you know that you will be moving out of our school district.  This will expedite the process in preparing the proper paperwork for transferring out your child.

Updating Student Records

Please notify the school whenever there are changes to your address and/or phone numbers. For your child's welfare, it is most important that this data be current so that you can be contacted in case of emergency.

Please notify the office if there are any changes in:
  • Address
  • Phone number (home, work or cell number)
  • Place of employment
  • Medical insurance
  • Emergency contact information
  • Legal guardianship
