What is school counseling at Ho`okele?

School counseling supports student learning by focusing on three key areas of  student development:
  • Academic Development
  • Career Development
  • Personal/Social Development

Ho`okele Elementary School Counselors strive to support student learning and growth by focusing on their academic, career, personal, and social development.  The counselors collaborate with staff, parents/guardians and community outreach agencies to establish positive relationships and provide timely supports for all students.  Counselors also work to support students in developing a positive mindset, fostering peer relationships, respecting one self and others, and acquiring the necessary academic skills necessary for success in and out of school.

Individual and Group Counseling

Ho`okele Elementary School Counselors meet weekly with students individually or in groups to provide academic, personal, and/or social support.   The different groupings allow counselors the flexibility to address the student needs in the following areas:

  • Conflict Resolution
  • Social Skills
  • Peer Relationships
  • Family loss/Bereavement
  • Divorce
  • Study Skills

Counselors collaborate with staff, parents, and other agencies to support the students’ growth in handling the types of challenges listed above.  If further support  is necessary, the counselors will help parents connect with community resources to further address the academic, personal social development concerns.

Classroom Guidance

Ho`okele Elementary School Counselors will implement guidance lessons that cover a variety of topics.  The topics will include things such as conflict resolution skills, anti-bullying, peer relationships, career exploration of different jobs, and occupations for the 21st Century learner.

If you have any questions or would like to consult with someone about your child, please contact the counselors at Ho`okele Elementary.  We look forward to supporting your child in becoming college, career, and citizenship ready.
